Turnstile Shelters

Porta-King prefabricated turnstile shelters will protect turnstiles from inclement weather especially if keycard readers or other sensitive access control equipment is included. Because units can be shipped fully assembled, installation can be completed in a matter of minutes.

Increase Security at Your Facility With Turnstile Shelters

Access into government or factory buildings need to be strictly controlled for security reasons, which is where turnstiles come in. If your turnstile is outdoors and has equipment like key card readers and other access control features, a turnstile shelter will protect it from being damaged by the weather.

Turnstile shelters also prevent trespassers from climbing over the turnstiles and gaining unauthorized access to your grounds. We also install an additional steel tube frame under the shelter’s windows to prevent anyone from sliding under the shelter to get onto the property. A must-have to help protect your employees, equipment, and buildings.

Quick, Easy Construction

No matter how limited the space where your turnstile is, the custom design of our turnstile shelters can be adapted to make it fit. A forklift is typically used installation but a crane can also be used when the space around the site is very limited. That way, construction is flexible and there is no need to alter the space. Turnstile shelters arrive fully constructed and are quickly installed by being bolted down on your new or existing concrete slab.

Construction options for turnstile shelters include:

  • Add lighting so employees or security cameras will be able to better see who is coming through the turnstile, increasing security.
  • Standard fixed window glazing of 3/16 inch tempered safety glass can be tinted to reduce glare or replaced with optional polycarbonate glazing to resist breakage. Standard designs include full height glazing with 70” tall windows on two sides.

Porta-King’s expert designers and engineers will work with you for a free on-site consultation to help you design your turnstile shelter.

Turnstile Shelter FAQs

Are turnstile shelters shipped for on-site assembly?

No, our turnstile shelters are fully welded steel structures that arrive on-site already assembled, eliminating the need for on-site labor. These turnstile shelters feature a heavy-duty steel framework painted with a two-part polyurethane to ensure years of trouble-free service.

What is the largest size available for turnstile shelters?

Turnstile shelters can accommodate virtually any size footprint by supplying smaller shelter modules that can be joined on-site. The largest single module for a turnstile shelter would be approximately 14′ x 20′. However, the size of turnstile shelters is also limited by shipping restrictions, as they are pre-constructed at the factory.

How are turnstile shelters installed?

The installation of turnstile shelters depends on the location of the turnstiles they will cover. Typically, a crane is used to lift and place the turnstile shelter. This method is especially useful when the turnstiles are surrounded by other structures, as it allows the turnstile shelter to be placed over existing turnstiles without risking damage from bringing the shelter in alongside them.

What customization options are available for turnstile shelters?

As custom fabricators of steel structures, we offer an extensive range of custom design options for turnstile shelters. We recommend browsing our photo galleries to see examples of custom turnstile shelter designs we’ve manufactured for other customers. You can also contact our home office to discuss your design ideas for turnstile shelters or request a face-to-face visit with a local representative.

Can you supply the turnstiles along with turnstile shelters?

No, we don’t manufacture turnstiles. However, we coordinate with turnstile manufacturers to ensure our turnstile shelters are designed to meet specific application requirements. This can include sharing CAD drawings and planning onsite visits to coordinate the design and installation of turnstile shelters with the turnstiles themselves.

How are turnstile shelters anchored to the ground?

Turnstile shelters have a baseplate welded to the bottom of all upright supports, which includes pre-drilled holes on all four corners to facilitate anchoring to the existing substrate. While anchors are not typically supplied with the turnstile shelter, they can be included with the installation. Information about the substrate type, physical location, and other details is necessary to ensure proper installation of turnstile shelters.
