This steel work platform supplied by PK Structures a Porta-King / Kelly Klosures Enterprise is being used to increase storage space at this food processing facility. A steel work platform can dramatically increase floor space by utilizing existing ceiling space. Construction cost is dramatically less than the cost of a building addition. In addition to creating more storage space above while the floor space below remains open for other uses.
Porta-King used all galvanized structural steel to create this steel work platform to meet the standards for hygiene maintained throughout this processing facility. The standard design of steel work platform is IBC compliant. PK Structures lead the mezzanine industry by creating standard designs for steel work platforms that are IBC compliant. PK Structures mezzanines utilize modified Type 1 and Type 3 AISC designs for beam to column connections. PK Structures utilize these designs to achieve code compliance without the need of knee bracing or cross bracing to achieve the necessary seismic resistance. The use of knee bracing or cross bracing for steel work platform construction can greatly reduce the useable space underneath the mezzanine deck.
The PK Structures mezzanine used to create this work platform is a truly prefabricated design. All connecting angles and clips for this steel work platform were pre-welded at our factory. This allows much faster installation of the structural framework of the steel work platform. The gusseted beam seat on the columns creates a place to rest the beam during the bolting process.
PK Structures standard decking of oriented strand board (OSB) was used for this steel work platform. PK Structures utilizes OSB for our mezzanine work platforms because it is a more dimensionally stable material than plywood.
