| Structural Steel Mezzanine with Modular Offices |
This newly constructed structural steel mezzanine will be used to support this modular office and to create additional storage space at this East Coast based Coast Guard facility. The mezzanine and this modular office were both manufactured by Porta-King. This new structure created a space for construction of this modular office while maintaining the use of the floor space below.
A catwalk was added to provide access between the modular office and the storage section of this mezzanine. Utilizing prefabricated construction offered the Coast Guard the advantage of quicker and cleaner construction when compared with using other conventional building methods. Because we manufacturer both products we take complete responsibility for the fit and finish of the entire project. The standard design of our steel mezzanines is IBC compliant. PK Structures has taken the lead versus other manufacturers of mezzanines in that our structures are designed in compliance with this new code as a standard. Most competitors have to adjust their designs to make them compliant. In many cases this is done after the initial price is provided or even after the product has shipped. This can mean additional cost as well as additional structure to create the required code compliant design. This additional structure can be in the form of knee braces or cross braces that can interfere with the useable space underneath the deck. This is not the case with a PK structures design. Our standard type 1 or type 3 beam-to-column connections create the required design for code compliance without requiring the additional structure.
PK Structures mezzanines utilize modified Type 1 and Type 3 AISC designs for beam to column connections. PK Structures utilize these designs to achieve code compliance without the need of knee bracing or cross bracing to achieve the necessary seismic resistance. We create detailed approval drawings, which show integration of the two systems allowing the customer to review the layout details of this integrated system prior to fabrication. This process typically eliminates on-site problems during installation.
